India-Delhi
And so our adventure begins....
We knew India was a big culture shock, and we were not disappointed. As soon as you leave the airport the craziness starts; cars everywhere, sticky heat, and the unrelenting sound of car horns!
Our small group of two grew when we boarded the plane: Charelle, who was travelling to India on her own, had somehow managed to find herself next to us. She's on the same tour as us, but starts today instead of tomorrow with us! Staying at the hotel next door, she hopped into the car that took us to our new homes for the next 3 nights! The hotel is clean, the service is quick and there is (questionable) wifi. All in all, not that bad!
Things I've learnt since being here:
- Lanes and other road markings mean nothing to anyone.
- No one has back windscreen wipers (it is unclear how the back windows seem to stay so clean)
- Beeping your horn means, hello I'm coming through, go faster, why are you coming towards me, or any other possible reason you may have to beep your horn...
- Everything is closed on a Monday
- The only vehicles that look official are the buses (this includes police cars, who have 'police' painted on)
- Monuments cost 30rupees (37p) for locals, and 500rupees (£6.25) for tourists to visit.
All in all, a mad couple of days, but so far a really good experience; oh and no Delhi Belly yet!
